Cluster of guesthouses and yoga centers, quiet area
Easy walk or shared taxi ride to Laxman Jhula
Not so near restaurants or shops, cramped surroundings
This is a small local residential and guesthouse area behind the main Swargashram market and along the road leading to Laxman Jhula. Many newer yoga centers on this side are located in Village Jonk and it is one of the areas favoured by long- term stayers.
Village Jonk may feel a little more cluttered compared to other areas as the buildings are huddled quite closely together. Often only a small walking lane leads to them, leaving very little room and light between some houses. You can find more generously spaced-out guesthouses, a couple of them facing the forest, nearer the end of the village. These are however further away from the center of Swargashram. As there are no proper shops or restaurants in Village Jonk itself, the nearest amenities are in the Swargashram market which is about 15 to 20 minutes walk away depending on where you are. The streets around Village Jonk are often dark or deemly lit at night, which may be a factor to consider as well if you are travelling alone.
There is little atmosphere to speak off so the main reasons to stay here would be proximity to whatever you plan to do in Rishikesh and the quieter surroundings as most roads are too small for cars. Village Jonk could also be a good choice if you wish to stay further away from the main tourist crowds. Do note that finding a room can be as hard here as in Swargashram during the peak travel season. Rooms are also relatively more expensive than the Laxman Jhula or Tapovan (see links to different areas in Rishikesh) guesthouses of similar standards.
Finally, as with Swargashram, if you come to Rishikesh with the public transport, you will most likely be dropped off on the other side across the Ram Jhula bridge and the walk to Village Jonk would be a good half hour or more. If you plan to book a private car to drive you here, it is possible to arrange to be dropped off at the main road outside Village Jonk, but probably at additional cost. From here, it is a much shorter walk to the guesthouses in the village. It is easy to get lost in the small alleys, so ask around at each turn to avoid unnecessary walking (your GPS may not work well for this purpose).
