Mantra chanting is an age old tradition practiced in yoga and it comes in many forms. Mantra chanting brings an immediate feeling of peace and it creates a space of well-being in you. It is a spiritual practice that enables healing powers, produces harmony and awakens higher states of consciousness. It is an introspective practice as compared to practising yoga in the physical form.
Below are some mantras often heard in the Hindu tradition. They have been selected from the book Advanced Yoga Study by Swami Dharmananda and the translations/interpretations are his. Selected samples of how these mantras can be properly chanted are found at the end of each mantra.
